For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice, that the LORD may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him – Genesis 18:19
One of the reasons God chose Abraham was so that Abraham would raise his children in accordance with the Commandments of God. In other words, this is what God commanded Abraham to do. God cares about the family. All too often when many speak of the Blessing of Abraham, they only refer to money. God wants to bless you in all things, including your family.
Genesis 24:1 says, ‘And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things.’ Abraham was blessed in all things, including his family life. There are those who chase after money and even Ministry at the expense of their families. This is not God’s Will. What shall it profit a man to gain the whole world and yet lose his family? Sending our children to good schools and great extra-mural activities is great but is a poor substitute for good parenting.
It’s time to follow in the Footsteps of Abraham and take the time to command our children and households to keep the Way of the Lord Jesus Christ, to do Righteousness and Justice. Just as God commanded Abraham to raise his children correctly, God is commanding us to do the same today. Faith obeys. The crooks of today were once the innocent children of yesterday. Someone didn’t raise them with the right values. Bend your children straight while they’re still bendable.
PRAYER
Father in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, help parents to imitate the Faith of Abraham and raise their children to keep your Ways, and to do Righteousness and Justice. Amen.
