Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth – Ephesians 6:1-3
God has not called us to just believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, but to be like Him. He’s our Example of Faith. The Lord Jesus Christ was Himself obedient to Mary and Joseph. Luke 2:51-52 says, ‘Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.’
The Lord’s trajectory in life was only upward and forwards. He was always making progress in life. All went well with Him, and even though He died at 33, He continues to live on to this day. That’s because He wasn’t just a Hearer of the Word but a Doer as well, and He was blessed in what He did.
So don’t just mentally assent to what God is saying to you. Don’t say you’ve heard this Message before and yet you don’t live it. That’s self-deception. You must be more than just a hearer of the Word. The Blessing is in doing. The Power of God is released when we act on the Word of Faith and obey it. Only then will things go well with us and our days prolonged on the earth.
CONFESSION
Things go well with me and I live long on the earth because I’m not just a hearer of the Word but a doer as well. When I hear the Word and act on it, I am blessed in all that I do. Glory to God!
