Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven – Matthew 5:14-16
The Church is the Light of this world. The Lord Jesus Christ is the Light that shines in us. Matthew 4:16 says, ‘The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.’ We used to languish in darkness, but now we’ve seen a great Light. We used to sit in the shadow of death, but now His Light has sprung up in us. 2 Corinthians 4:6 says, ‘For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.’ His Light shines in us. Glory to God!
We’re now the Light of this dark world. That’s why we must let our Light shine. And when men see our Good Works, they’ll glorify our Father in Heaven. That’s why there’s no such thing as ‘my Faith is a private matter’. When you make your Christianity a secret, you’re hiding your Light from others. And they so desperately need it. Without you shining your Light, they will continue to live in darkness and perish in it.
That’s why we need to walk in the Light every day of our lives. We have to repent of the deeds of darkness and live lives that are pleasing to our Heavenly Father. When the Church preaches the Gospel to the world, and also lives the Gospel they preach, it liberates those around them. But when we don’t minister to them and live in sin like they do, we’re hiding our Light and the Lord will remove our Lampstand. It’s time to trim our wicks and fill our Lamps with oil. The time to be a closet Christian is over. This is the Year of Light Coming out of Darkness. It’s time to come out of the darkness. It’s time to come out of hiding and be put on a pedestal for all men to see the Brightness of the Lord’s Glory through you. Glory to God!
CONFESSION
I’m the Light of the world that’s why I live my Faith out in the open. That’s why I let my Light so shine that men may see my Good Works and glorify my Father in Heaven.
