Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers – Luke 2:46-47
By age twelve, the Lord Jesus Christ was already engaged in deep conversations with the Rabbis in the Temple. That’s because the Lord was conscious of His Assignment on earth. Even though He started His public Ministry at age thirty, He knew He had to prepare. As a result, He used His Time wisely. If there’s something many young people think they have in abundance is time, and they’re wrong. Ask any middle-aged or old person alive today and they’ll tell you they wish they had more time.
Time goes by so quickly. That’s why you have to know why you’re here early enough in life and pursue it with all you have. But many young people believe they have so much time. That’s why many of them spend their time hanging out. They go to the mall, they watch movies, they play video games, they chat online, they get together and sit all night talking. Some spend their time pursuing members of the opposite sex, drinking, smoking, clubbing and getting up to all kinds of mischief. Many believe it’s a phase in life that everyone must go through. But that’s not true.
You don’t have to do any of that. The Lord Jesus Christ did nothing of the sort, and I’m certain young people of His Time had their own fair share of distractions. Be like the Lord Jesus Christ, spend your time doing things of eternal value. Fasting, praying, studying the Scriptures, evangelizing, going to school, investing in your personal development and acquiring new skills is so vitally important. It doesn’t matter that your friends think that’s boring. Change your friends then. Start spending time with people of Vision and Purpose. The Lord will one day return and ask you what you did with all that time He gave you. Be a young man or young woman of Vision and Purpose. Take hold of your life by the Power of the Spirit and start living like the Lord Jesus Christ. Plan for each year, quarter, month, week and day. It’s time to wake up and get serious.
CONFESSION
I choose to live my life like the Lord Jesus Christ. I choose to live a life of Vision and Purpose. I refuse to waste my time being aimless and confused. I take hold of my life by the Power of the Spirit and start it with eternity in mind. Glory to God!
